Month 6, Day 11
Something looked off, measured again and it was.
Month7, Day 10
Building structures. In the process of drawing, drawing objects in particular, you essentially learn to build them and understand how they are made.
Month 6, Day 9
Feels a lot like drafting, but I'm not above using a straight edge when drawing geometric objects.
Month 6, Day 8
I'm not totally sure about this but I'm going to give it a shot and see what comes of it
Month 6, Day 6
I decided to print this panel gray mostly because I couldn't find my white gesso but also because I think it might be a good idea.
Month 6, Day 5
Developed this study a bit more. The final piece won't be in color but I did it in color anyway. It sort of makes sense to treat these like smaller independent pieces that could stand on their own. It would be nice to have one or two of these for each piece in the series. I feel like I missed some good opportunities on the last 5. Live and learn.
Month 6, Day 4
I ever can't remember doing something for the first time without feeling I could do it better a second time. This is one of the reasons why I draw. This is one of the reasons why I do studies. Been working on this on and off throughout the day today. I learned a lot.
Month 6, Day 3
Some priming needs to happen soon.
Month 6, Day 2
There was this one memory...
Month 6, Day 1
Whoa, month 6. How did I get here? I like to think that future me will look back on this time in my life with fondness and some kind of special insight only time and distance can offer. Meanwhile present me is pretty well occupied with the various tasks at hand.
Month 5, Day 31
Month 5 complete.
BMX Dreams Lost
36" x 48"
ink, acrylic and spray enamel on wood panel
Month 5, Day 30
Well, somehow I have to finish this piece tomorrow. I have no idea how but that never seems to matter much. In addition to the busted leg I somehow caught a summer cold. It seems there is always something making my job harder It would seem that I'd be used to it by now.
Month 5, Day 29
I got a few new paintbrushes. This is one of them.
Month 5, Day 28
I know it but I forget it often. To do good work in the studio you sort of have to live in your studio. You have to be in there doing what you do enough that your second nature kicks in and you can relax and work and see the things you need to see and feel the freedom to try the things you want to try. The only way I have found to make that work is by putting in the time. Maybe that's just me? Oh, also I'm feeling good about where this piece is going.
Month 5, Day 27
Up to the usual stuff.
Month 5, Day 26
Mark ups. I often wonder how the commitment to document my process on a daily basis affects how I work. I'm not sure if it's possible to know exactly at this point in time but I have no doubt that there is an effect. Perhaps one day I have a better sense of what is at work here.
Month 5, Day 25
I have about a week to finish this. This month has flown by.
Month 5, Day 24
Most of the line work is done. At least according to my initial study. I'm pretty sure more needs to happen, although I don't know what that is just yet.
Month 5, Day 23
Working.
