From an aesthetic stand point I love everything about them but then there is an emotional connection with early memories seeing them illegally opened by someone wielding a big wrench or on occasion with a mysteriously obtained  hydrant key. Then there is the street skating connection when doing an ollie over a hydrant was all the rage.  Even the name is a bit of an oxymoron. What's not to like.
